St Petersburg Port
Abacus has provided a lighting solution for the
largest port in North West Russia. Situated in the
historic City of St Petersburg, the facility is
responsible for handling approximately 100,000
containers per year.
The Port, which includes six berths, three of which are
for roll on roll off vessels and three to handle
container vessel. In addition, the port benefits from
four ship-to-shore container cranes and four
rail-mounted gantries, which have a lifting capacity of
30.5 tons.
Offering open storage grounds with a total area of
307,211 sq. m, and 7500 sq. m of sheltered warehouses,
St Petersburg has adopted the 30m Abacus Raising and
Lowering Winch Mast system with triple pulleys.
The key advantage of the Abacus RLW system is that it
can operate in confined spaces, presenting an ideal
solution for applications such as Ports, Harbours and
Airports.
The RLW system also has the advantage that the head
frame can be lowered to the ground using a manual or
electrically powered winch system. This enables
installation and any necessary maintenance to be carried
out at ground level, in complete safety. The system also
offers long term cost savings for routine maintenance as
the need for expensive access systems are eliminated.
