Adding architectural style
Abacus have recently completed the design,
manufacture and installation of an architectural
entrance canopy for a brand new Medical centre in
Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham.
Designed by the Panton Sargent Partnership and built by
Carillion, this £4 million development at Chelmsley Wood
will bring under one roof a four GP practice and
district nursing, physiotherapy, podiatrists, dental,
pharmacy and mental health services. The Chelmsley Wood
development is part of a £31 million investment in
bringing neighbourhood ‘one-stop health centres’ to
Birmingham and Solihull. The scheme, by Birmingham and
Solihull Solutions, will also allow people to have
surgery and investigative procedures locally - without
the headache of traffic jams and parking at hospital.
This development is to be one of the first eleven for
Birmingham and Solihull under the Local Improvement
Finance Trust programme, and paid for through Birmingham
and Solihull Solutions Company.
With close liaison with the appointed design company,
Abacus designed and manufactured a bespoke canopy to
meet the exact requirement of the client. The curved
canopy design makes an individual statement and adds
immediate cohesion to the contemporary design of the
Medical Centre. The 3.3m high canopy incorporates four
main support posts of 194 diameter CHS steel, a RHS
steel roof frame with a profiled steel channel running
the full length of the canopy, spanning 11metres. The
roof is glazed with 13mm laminated shaped glass.
