Colt appoints Group Business Development Manager in its Smoke Control division

Colt International has appointed Jean-Claude De Smedt as Group Business Development Manager in its Smoke Control division; he re-joins the team following a 12 year absence.

After his technical HVAC graduate studies, Jean-Claude worked for 15 years in the field of smoke control at Colt International in Belgium, but left in 1994 to start his own fire safety consultancy. Jean-Claude rapidly became involved in the design of the fire protection measures for several prestigious buildings in Belgium, such as the new European Parliament Buildings, Brussels Airport Terminal, Berlaymont Building, Eurostation, and most major shopping centres. Further a field he has worked on other well-known buildings in Europe and the Far East, such as the new Changi Airport Terminal 3 Building and the prestigious Theatres On The Bay concert and theatre halls in Singapore.

Jean-Claude is involved in many relevant standard committees related to smoke control in Europe. He is a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and has served on the Board of Directors of the IFE for six years. Jean-Claude has been an active member of the European Standard Committee, CENTC 191 SC1, since 1989 and was chairman for six years. CEN TC 191 SC1 “Smoke & Heat Control Installations”, is the subcommittee responsible for drafting European standards (the EN 12-101 series of standards).
