Formica® Laminate chosen for use in Habinteg inclusive kitchen and bathrooms

Formica Limited is delighted to have its High Pressure Laminate chosen by Alison Wright of Easy Living Home for use in the Habinteg Housing Association’s Inclusive Design Showcase at Westwood Park in Bradford. Wisteria, Tobago and Arctic Blue from the Formica® Plain Colours range and Table Oak from the Formica® Woodgrains range were chosen for use in the Bathrooms and Kitchens.

Easy Living Home was tasked by Habinteg to design the Kitchens and Bathrooms for a ‘Lifetime Home’ and a ‘Wheelchair Accessible Bungalow’ at Westwood Park. The brief was to demonstrate that inclusive design need not be unattractive or stigmatising. Alison Wright chose to use Formica® laminate in the creation of bespoke Bathroom furniture, which included; bath panels with a cut out at the base, allowing carers to step in closer to the bath for lifting; a matching seat incorporated at the end of the bath and concealed cistern boxing. Formica laminate was also used in the kitchen as a splashback, allowing height adjustable cupboards and worktops to move easily.

“Inclusive design doesn’t have to look institutional,” comments Alison Wright of Easy Living Home. “We all want to live in attractive surroundings and with a little thought stunning interiors that incorporate functional ‘inclusive design’ elements can be created. Formica laminate is a fantastic material for any interior – it’s durable and easy to look after while offering stunning design choices.”

The Westwood Park project was highly commended within the Inclusive Design category of the recent FX International Design Awards.
