New guide will help architects specify dance floors

Leading dance floor specialist British Harlequin plc announces the publication of a free, new guide to specifying dance floors. Published in response to increased interest in dance teaching and performance in schools and colleges and the provision of suitable dance floors, as well as for traditional dance spaces such as private dance schools, rehearsal rooms, performing arts centres and dance companies, the Guide explains the most important criteria.

Up to now there has been a lack of specific information available to architects specifying floors suitable for dance. This new 24 page, A4 Guide seeks to redress this situation and explains the importance of the dance floor in meeting both the performance aspirations of dancers and conformity to health and safety requirements. Dancers need to have confidence in the floor characteristics in order to perform without fear of slipping or falling. The Guide explains the importance of purpose designed sprung dance floors, not only in enhancing performance but also in helping to protect against the hazards of long term injuries from hard, unyielding floors.

The Guide explains that commercial sports floors for example, have completely different characteristics to purpose designed sprung dance floors and the wide spectrum of dance disciplines requires not only a variety of different dance surfaces, but also of sprung systems. Harlequin's useful new publication, ‘Specifying Dance Floors - A Guide for Architects’, has been written specifically with architects in mind. It details the differences between the sprung floors in Harlequin's range; gives test results and specifications, together with case studies of a variety of installations worldwide.
