Yorkshire Ballet Seminars

To the delight of the children participating in the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars under the direction of Marguerite Porter, there were several top quality performances to enjoy, plus the experience of dancing on professional floors supplied by British Harlequin.

Former principal of The Royal Ballet, Marguerite was fulsome in her praise for the Harlequin Cascade and Reversible floors used and equally impressed with the delivery to solve a last minute need for a new area of flooring. ‘To say I am pleased with the floor is an understatement, and of course your quick and kind response to my dilemma was so much appreciated.’

Looking back at the event, Marguerite Porter said, ‘the Seminar was a great success, with some wonderful students, ranging from the local raw talent to the more experienced vocational school children. We had some fantastic evening events which the students loved, including a spectacular performance from Yat Set-Chang and Simmone Clarke (Principals of ENB) who danced 3 incredibly demanding pas de deux, Romeo and Juliet Balcony, (Nureyev`s version) La Sylphide, and Don Q. We had the honour of Sir Anthony Dowell giving a most inspirational Master class to some of the senior boys, Gary Sherwood (ex Principal of the Royal Ballet) gave a charming pas de deux demonstration. I gave a coaching demonstration to Samara Downes, now with BRB and a former student of the Seminars for many years, then we had the wonderful Wayne Sleep who gave a choreographic demonstration. It was such fun and everyone had a marvelous time, especially the dancers involved.’
