Honeywell wins award for best security solution in Europe

Integrated Security Technology at Two Nuclear Power Plants Voted "Best in Industry" for Performance and Reliability.

BRACKNELL, England, Jan 31, 2006 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced that it is the recipient of the 2005 Best Security Solution in Europe Award from "Seguritecnia", the leading magazine for security industry professionals in Spain.

Honeywell won the honour based on the overall performance and reliability of its integrated security solutions protecting two Spanish nuclear power plants - Almaraz and Trillo. Bearing out the management’s interest in having the very best security technology, a panel of independent judges drawn from ASIS International and key Spanish security associations, including the Association of Security Directors (AEDS), the Professional Association of Security Companies (FES) and Tecnifuego-Aespi, Spain’s regulatory fire authority, voted on the award.

The winning technology was implemented in two phases at the power plants over a three-year period. Phase one saw the installation of perimeter protection, intruder detection and digital video management with closed circuit television (CCTV) and video motion detection. The second phase included the addition of Temaline access controls, along with mustering, and time and attendance monitoring — with redundancy options on the server and Temaline controllers.

The result is a full-access security solution with the different functions working together via a common control platform, Honeywell Enterprise Buildings

Integrator™ (EBI). The entire system operates on a one gigabit local area network (LAN) installed by Honeywell. In addition, Honeywell technicians provide on-going maintenance to these mission-critical sites.

The integrated solution has helped boost availability, interoperability, functionality and responsiveness at both Almaraz and Trillo. And security has significantly improved as a result, which is confirmed by independent audits from the Spanish Nuclear Authority, Police and Army.

Ángel Fernández Zorrilla, security manager of both Almaraz and Trillo said: “Almaraz has always pioneered state-of-the-art security. The Honeywell integrated solution enables us to continue this lead and to incorporate Trillo into this scope. It enables access control, intruder detection and surveillance to work together to provide a holistic, round-the-clock picture of security at these energy facilities. And all the information is available through one PC window”

The award, which confirms Honeywell’s position as a premier global security company, was presented to the company at a recent ceremony held by ‘Seguritecnia’ in Madrid.
