OCS Provides Professional Care For Hospital Access Routes

OCS Technical’s Suregrip Walkway has made its debut as part of a multi-million pound hospital refurbishment project, providing safe fire escape and maintenance routes at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

Part of a much greater project to transform hospitals and healthcare in Dudley, OCS Technical has installed safety wire systems, hand rails and Suregrip walkways, providing access for roof maintenance and safe fire escape routes for hospital staff and patients. The Suregrip walkway is ideal for this purpose as its unique design is non-slip, even when wet, making paths that would be used to evacuate buildings during an emergency reliable under all conditions. A number of ‘deadweight’ anchors were also provided to roof areas that will only require very occasional access. The benefit of using ‘deadweight’ anchors is that they do not penetrate the roof membrane and can therefore be used in several areas simply by dismantling and reassembling.

Chris Cracknell, chief executive of OCS, said: “This is a very high profile project, and I am proud that OCS has been involved in delivering such a crucial part of it with regards to access and escape routes.

Work at Russells Hall Hospital has totally transformed the site, delivering purpose-built premises and state-of-the-art equipment in refurbished and newly constructed facilities. As well as providing safe access solutions, the design features for mounting of the Suregrip walkway meant that there was no need for any fixing bolts or anchors to penetrate the new standing seam aluminium roofs at the hospital.
