Palgrave Brown's Posi-tive expansion

Palgrave Brown, the UK’s £66 million leading engineered timber specialist, is meeting growing demand for open web flooring systems with its latest investment of £100,000 in two specialist manufacturing sites within the company’s 18 site national network.

Two new Mitek Posi Strut Runner machines have now been installed at Palgrave Brown’s Yeovil and Widnes branches to boost the existing production capacity. The sales and design support has also been strengthened as part of this latest investment phase with new Posi-Joist designers at each site and a new sales and central design office at Nuneaton.

These recent advances represent phase two of a planned rapid development programme for Palgrave Brown’s Posi-Joist division, which started with an investment in Yeovil in 2004, establishing the company’s first dedicated production site.

Customer demand for Posi-Joist has grown ahead of forecasts, as house builders and developers benefit from a two week lead time and totally integrated flooring and roofing solutions, saving time and hassle on site, says Dave Atkins, Palgrave Brown’s national product manager for Posi-Joists.

“The addition of a flooring department within each of our roof truss operations is proving invaluable as the synergies are fantastic. We use the same design software, the same hardware, design and estimating resource for both product ranges. The two manufacturing sites, which can offer complete floor and roof solutions that can be sold, designed and delivered from one location, will potentially provide a cost saving to customers, as well as guaranteeing excellent service on time, every time.”

The Posi-Joist system is the latest generation of flooring systems within the building industry and combines timber and Posi Strut steel web that allows for a span of far greater distances while allowing a variety of internal room layouts within an external shell. The open web design also provides concealed piping for contractors, without the need for sawing gaps, as in traditional flooring methods. The design, size and flexibility of the Posi-Joist system means that it can also be used to span flat and pitched roofs.
