Quinn SPC: an alternative for glass in roofing and construction

Quinn Plastics offers QUINN SPC, a product especially useful in a wide range of roofing applications. QUINN SPC is extruded from Polycarbonate resin, the material of choice for the roofing sector.

Roofing applications need special properties
QUINN SPC is a multi-wall sheet extruded from polycarbonate - a unique engineering thermoplastic resin that gives high levels of mechanical, thermal and optical properties which are essential in a wide range of roofing applications.

In essence Multi-wall polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable, lighter in weight and offers much higher insulation values, making it a safe alternative to more traditional sheet products.

QUINN SPC is also impact resistant and provides energy saving. It features a protection system which provides resistance against degradation caused by UV radiation from sunlight. The key properties of QUINN SPC allow the product to be used as an alternative to glass, PVC, Acrylic or GRP in roofing and cladding applications. The 10-year guarantee for optical, mechanical properties and for hail resistance on products of 10mm and above, reinforce these values. The product is certified according to the SIA 280 standard for it's hail resistance.

Diamonds are cool
QUINN SPC diamond, a multiwall polycarbonate sheet, aims particularly at the conservatory and construction market. Many conservatories cannot be used during summer months, as solar radiation causes unwanted heat build up. The new sheet has a diamond structure and newly developed solar control layer to reduce heat build up.

The diamond pattern shows stiffness improvements over current QUINN SPC designs, which will allow wider spacing of glazing bars. Although the sheet weight has been reduced the k (u)* value has been maintained at an excellent level.

Most importantly, tests have shown that a reduction of room temperature of up to 17°C can be expected, using the Diamond Cool White option. QUINN SPC diamond offers a 10- year warranty against yellowing and also shows increased mechanical stiffness over more traditional conservatory roofing materials.

*U or K value is the coefficient which determines heat loss in the glazing walls of a building

Production
Part of the product range of QUINN SPC is produced in Quinn Plastic’s newest sales and production site in Alfreton. Since the acquisition of the Polyex business, Quinn Plastics has continued to develop the Alfreton site in order to further expand its production, warehousing and sales capabilities. As well as changing the name to Quinn Plastics Ltd, the investments included the purchase of large warehouse building and the creation of a new cutting centre for QUINN SPC sheet. These investments permitted the transfer of the sales activity for UK customers of Quinn Plastics from the existing office in Geel (Belgium) to the new facilities in Alfreton.

Product Range
QUINN SPC is available in thicknesses of 4 mm till 35 mm. The sheets are produced in widths starting from 980 mm until 2100 mm and lengths of 6 or 7 metres. QUINN SPC diamond with Solar finish is subject to special conditions.
