NEW Integrated Photovoltaic Double Glazed Units (DGUs)

Generate free electricity and save conventional power
Photovoltaics are solar panels that convert energy from the sun into electricity. World leading photovoltaic manufacturer SCHOTT Solar has recently launched ASI THRU® DGU’s which are integrated into buildings as a replacement for existing glazing to generate solar electricity, shading and thermal insulation in one unit.

Once installed, ASI THRU® provides free electricity for the building. The product is suitable for large areas of glazing without sacrificing any loss in thermal comfort during the winter, and in comparison to conventional DGU’s they further reduce solar heat gain in the summer, without the requirement for an additional shading system. For large glazed areas, additional shading systems and proper thermal insulation are normally required.

The solar heat gain coefficient is 10% - much lower than conventional DGU glazing (~80%) and an improvement on external shading devices such as blinds. The product has 10% light transmittance with a homogenous appearance allowing a consistent flood of even light, with a view to the outside world.

ASI THRU® DGU’s are easy to glaze using commercially available metal profile systems with a plug-in electrical connection. Available in large panels sizes up to 2.4m x 1.2m, the product is based on amorphous silicon technology, which ensures efficient use of raw materials in its production.

ASI THRU® DGU’s not only provide free electricity, but also reduce the amount of heating required in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Thereby, in all three cases, the product cuts carbon emissions in line with DOCUMENT L and government targets for 2010.
