minutes integrity
Architects and building owners welcomed the introduction
of a fire rated butt joint glazing system by SCHOTT
several years ago, to provide 30 minutes integrity. In
recent times there has been increasing demand to offer
longer periods of fire resistance. SCHOTT is now pleased
to announce that the PYRAN S Butt Joint System has been
successfully tested and is now available to provide 60
minutes integrity.
SCHOTT’s fire resistant glass is specifically
manufactured to meet the requirements of modern
architecture and to comply with safety regulations. The
PYRAN S Butt Joint System gives you the freedom to
eliminate mullions and exploit the clean look of glass
to maximum effect.
Recently tested at Warrington Fire Research Centre, the
PYRAN S Butt Joint System achieved 89 minutes integrity,
thus providing the client with a considerable comfort
factor over the nominal 60 minute integrity rating
(E60). A solution up to 3 metres in height is now
available.
The system consists of toughened monolithic PYRAN S
sheets connected by a thin intumescent joint from Gluske,
Germany and contained within a steel perimeter frame.
The system is ideally suited for continuous runs of fire
resistant glazing without mullions in internal and
covered external applications: for example in partition
walls in sports stadia, shopping centres, leisure
centres, office complexes, museums, schools and
hospitals.
The specific properties of the thermally toughened
borosilicate PYRAN S glass and the Kerafix intumescent
sealant 89from Gluske compliment each other to produce
this unique 60 minutes integrity Butt Joint system.
