Tarkett-Marley ‘Sweep the Floor’ in PFI hospital

18,000 sqm of floorcovering from Marley Floors has been installed in a new £55 million PFI hospital at Roehampton, West London. Architects, Devereux Architects specified Marley Floors. Bovis Lend Lease, the main contractor, who already held a purchasing alliance agreement with Marley Floors, supported the decision.

Constructed within the grounds of the original hospital, the new state of the art, four storey building features wood-effect vinyl Premier Light Oak in the reception and restaurant, Eclipse PUR vinyl sheet in the corridors and wards, Elite PUR in the stair areas and Safetred Aqua in the wet areas including the showers and toilets.

Harpal Jandu from Devereux Architects said, “We specified Marley Floors products because of our familiarity with the product used on other projects. As well as the quality and suitability of their product range the colour palette on offer was suitable for the interior design of the hospital.”

Rees Flooring, who has worked with Marley Floors on many PFI and other commercial projects, installed the floorcoverings. Colin White from Rees Flooring comments, “The contract was extensive and demanding but Marley Floors products are of a high quality with excellent service so the installation went smoothly and was completed on time.”

Helen Walley, Chief Executive for Wandsworth Teaching Primary Care Trust who manage the hospital, said, “We are thrilled with our new home, it looks amazing. The rebuilding of this historic hospital has been a true example of what can be achieved when you work closely with your partner organisations.”

Premier is a highly decorative natural effect floorcovering, suitable for heavy wear areas, and predominantly specified for prestigious retail, leisure, health and education installations. A clear wear layer protects the surface from scuffs and marking, helping to retain its looks under even the toughest conditions. High quality films are used to ensure the visual finish is of the highest quality and the product is available in a range wood, stone, pebble, grass and water designs.

Elite and Eclipse PUR are two flexible vinyls, offering a joint colour palette of 40 tone-on-tone colours, making them ideal for design projects. They are durable and hardwearing for demanding locations such as hospitals and schools. The specialist Pro-Tech polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) provides even greater protection against scratching and scuffing. In addition, Elite and Eclipse PUR can be used with a ‘no polish’ machine maintenance programme that reduces the overall life cycle costs for the flooring whilst maintaining its looks.

Safetred Aqua delivers exceptional slip-resistance for all wet, bare-foot areas. The incorporation of cork particles delivers a comfortable, warm surface for bare-foot use. Together the impermeable welded seams and bacteria and fungi biostat combine to provide outstanding hygiene control and performance qualities.
