New Sports Floor for Flood-Hit School

Omnisports Pro from Tarkett-Marley Floors was installed in the sports hall at Trinity School in Carlisle after the existing surface was irreparably damaged in floods early last year. The hall was swamped by over a metre of water and as a result required a complete refurbishment. Omnisports Pro was recommended because it meets the BS:7044 Part 4 standards for multi-sports flooring, is similar in type to the previous surface, was readily available and within the budget constraints set by the insurance company.

Stephen Higgs, the Bursar at Trinity School explains, “The floods devastated the school and many other properties in the area. The 1960’s school hall suffered significant damage, although even before the floods it was in need of a refurbishment. We now have an impressive new sports hall with a multi-sports surface marked out for seven different sports including badminton, indoor hockey and cricket nets. Staff and pupils are very happy with the look and feel of the finished floor.”

Roy Henderson is the Managing Director from the flooring contractors A&H Floor Covering Specialists Ltd. Roy comments, “We suggested Omnisports Pro because it was readily available in a tight time frame and closely matched the architects specification brief for a multi-sports floor, satisfying the impact energy absorption levels required. Because of the state of the flooded sub-floor we laid a special underlayment to prevent any moisture rising. 840sqm of Omnisports Pro, in a thickness of 7.65mm and green surface colour, was then installed and marked out for a range of activities.”

Roy continues, “Omnisports is available in a wide colour range and several thicknesses depending on use and performance required. The flooring is in ready supply with very helpful support from the Tarkett-Marley Floors team. We would definitely be happy to use this product again.”

Omnisports is a multi-sports floor covering with a closed cell cushioning system beneath a tough playing surface that provides point elasticity at the point of impact. To meet every level of performance requirement, Omnisports is available in three different thickness - Omnisports Training in 3.63.7mm, Omnisports Pro in 7.65mm and Omnisports Competition in a 8.75mm thickness.

The cost effective and high performance sports floor covering has been tested to BS:7044 Part 4 and can be loose-laid on a slab sub-base or as part of the Marley Sport Combi system. When used in conjunction with the Combi system the overall construction is designated Impact Energy Absorbing and therefore meets the criteria stipulated by Sport England and other funding authorities for grant aid.
