A Mega-Lit solution for Sutton College

Sutton Coldfield College has long appreciated the low maintenance and high performance of Tarkett floor coverings. When the college refurbished it’s amenities and games room, Tarkett Megalit offered a practical solution combined with innovative design.

Megalit, part of Tarkett’s iQ vinyl range, was the first homogeneous flooring in Class T, the highest wear group. Its development was the result of new technology combined with an extremely high content of quality raw materials. No other homogeneous flooring on the market can compete with Megalit’s properties and constituent materials.

The striking red and black theme chosen for the amenities room has helped to create a vibrant and relaxed environment. “Having used Tarkett floor coverings extensively throughout the site, we knew they would be an excellent choice for the amenities room,” comments Estates Manager, John Latham. “The products always do what we ask them to do and we are very happy with the performance and maintenance aspects. The colours available really appealed to us and we are delighted with the results.”

It is no surprise that Megalit scores top marks with specifiers for creative choice. The collection features colours based on three themes: natural, urban and contemporary. Granules have been replaced by flakes of different shapes and sizes, while the high proportion of transparent material in the mix gives the pattern richer depth and greater variation.

In such a high traffic area as the amenities area, easy cleaning is absolutely essential. As a Tarkett iQ concept floor covering it can offer a saving in maintenance costs of at least 30% compared to other floor types. The product has a unique ‘third generation’ PUR reinforced treatment. When combined with the highest quality raw material and manufacturing methods, this treatment ensures that the floor covering will require No wax or polish throughout it’s lifetime.

Tarkett iQ floor coverings also give specifiers the opportunity to select more sustainable floor coverings. The collection holds Building Research Establishment (BRE) Certification, which recognises its environmental credentials. This certification means that all the inputs and outputs from the manufacture of these products are independently verified and the effects over the whole life are measured for their environmental impact.
