Publishers of Lloyds List improve quality of working experience
with “beautifully installed” Toshiba Air Conditioning
Informa PLC, specialist global technical publisher
well-known for the daily Lloyds List newspaper, has had
a large Toshiba air conditioning system, supplied by
authorized distributor AMP, installed by contractors
Quantech Environmental Ltd as part of the complete
refurbishment of its Colchester HQ.
VRF air conditioning systems from Toshiba are
increasingly being used to improve comfort conditions in
larger and larger installations. Such is the capacity of
Toshiba’s R410A SMMS and SHRM systems that they can
comfortably cool and heat a ‘typical’ large, three
storey ‘seventies office block found in so many UK town
centres.
Informa Facilities Manager Dave Green said, “This
building is now thirty years old and if we were to keep
it we had to do something about the comfort levels. It’s
basically a glass and concrete box and gets very hot.
The Toshiba system has been beautifully and discreetly
installed by Quantech and has made a huge difference.
The quietness of the new technology is very important in
the open plan areas and the boardrooms. We’re very
pleased with it.”
Greg Virgoe of Quantec explained, “it was by no means an
easy job as so much of the ‘classic’ teak paneled
interior has been retained, and we had to carry out the
work one floor at a time with the building still
occupied. The system was designed primarily for
‘cooling-only’ as there was no choice about removing the
recently renewed perimeter wet heating system but
Toshiba’s inverter-controlled VRF equipment provided the
flexibility that the clients wanted when it came to air
conditioning and they have been using its heating
capability to supplement their existing system. We are
always extremely well supported by AMP and we’re glad we
used the new Toshiba kit.”
There are four Toshiba SMMS systems in all, providing a
total capacity of 200 kW of cooling. One system is used
for each open plan floor, supplying ducted indoor units
in the ceiling, and the fourth one supplies high wall
units and cassettes in the small number of separate
offices and boardrooms. The supply air is tempered
before it enters the system and the ceiling voids act as
a return air plenum. This is an economic and efficient
solution.
