Fast-track healthcare accommodation

Need a new hospital wing quickly? - think modular! Rather than modular buildings historically providing over-flow office accommodation, or temporary clinics, we now see full-service hospitals produced ‘off site’.

When National Health Trusts have to deliver a new hospital within tight timescales, either as a result of Labour’s 2001 manifesto pledge to build 100 new hospitals by 2010, or when there is a delay in funding coming through to a hospital trust’s coffers, it is often modular construction specialists like Neath Abbey based Wernick Buildings who are called in to produce the building ‘on programme’. When speed is one of the key considerations, then fast-track modular accommodation is the only realistic option and with waiting lists continuing to be a key product indicator for healthcare providers this time-efficient construction method has been utilised extensively to bring healthcare accommodation on line quickly.

Internally, modular buildings can be fitted-out to provide full medical gas piping, nurse call systems, hygienic wall, floor and ceiling finishes, lead-lined x-ray rooms and sluices with associated engineering. And if required, modular buildings can be finished with a traditional brick skin and a tiled truss roof.

The latest in a long line of Wernick healthcare buildings is Morriston Hospital’s 15 station, 340 square metre Renal Dialysis Unit. This is just the first stage of a project aimed at offering an enlarged on-site dialysis service to the South-West Wales area. The modular Rapidplan™ building is soon be extended by a further 10 stations.

More and more we are seeing off-site construction being specified for a variety of healthcare needs and the trend seems set to continue well into the future.
