Wieland Electric speeds up photovoltaic installations

Wieland Electric has introduced a fast-track connection system to speed up installations for electrical contractors in the booming photovoltaic market. The gesis® AC-SOLAR connection system can cut connection times by up to 90 per cent compared to traditional methods.

The installation of photovoltaic panels to generate electricity is a burgeoning market and is being driven by high energy prices and greater environmental awareness. The gesis® AC-SOLAR 3 and 5 pole connectors are suitable for mains connection of photovoltaic systems as well as for three phase supply in tunnels, parking garages, stadiums, building facades, airports, industrial halls, underground garages and wind turbines. In system and device engineering the system can be used for motor connections, field bus wiring, low voltage and signal applications and for three-phase supply.

The connector system is suitable for the solar industry especially for connection to inverters with three-phase monitoring. Both three and five pole screw connections are available. The AC-SOLAR range is based on the already successful gesis® IP+ installation system which has only four basic components: Connectors for on site assembly; pluggable distribution boxes; pre-assembled cables; and device connectors for installation in housings and interface to consumer devices.

The system provides IP66/68 protection - its UV resistant materials make it ideal for outdoor installations. The three pole option has a rated voltage of 250V while the five pole version is also available in a rating of 400V. The rated current is 25A for both versions. It has angled device connections and can accommodate cable diameters of up to 18mm2.

The gesis® AC-SOLAR connectors can transfer either 20A three phase or 25A single phase. Mechanical coding ensures that the connector cannot be mis-mated with other devices. All components can be reused thus reducing waste.
